Restaurants in New Jersey Owned by Ernie

According to Wikipedia, the name Ernie is short for Ernest, which in Germanic, means “bold, vigorous, resolute.” These just so happen to be defining characteristics of successful restaurant entrepreneurs, particularly in New Jersey, and so it should come to no surprise that there are multiple Garden State eateries owned by someone named Ernie.

Ernest and Sons

Since 1977 the Ernest and Sons butcher/sandwich shop has thrived in the town of Brigantine, NJ. Wanna talk big time? This family business, established by Ernest Storino and his son “Sam,” first caught the nation’s attention after an appearance on TV’s “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” (or “Triple D” to those in the know) hosted by culinary artist legend, Guy Fieri. We recommend you skip the fanfare and head right for “Ernie Special,” which is a mixture of meat, cheese, and vegetables between two slices of bread.

Ernie and Dom’s Restaurant

Ernie and Dom’s Restaurant is another decades old, family-run establishment. Despite the fact that D comes before E in the alphabet, Ernie’s name takes precedence thanks to its undeniable magnetism and overall appeal. No smoke and mirrors here, only faithful Italian standbys are served at this joint. Both the “mozarella stix” and the “spaghetti with tomato sauce” are tasty enough that after one bite, you will “forget about it.”

Ernie’s Ice Cream Stand

Although it is less than only a quarter mile from the New York state border, you better believe Ernie’s Ice Cream is New Jersey through and through. Although the official website, erniesicecream.com, takes you to a search engine, everything you could want to know about this establishment can be found on their somewhat-frequently updated Facebook page. Well, except who Ernie is. But they do describe their flavors as “Ernielicious,” which once again proves the selling power packed into such a bold, vigorous, and resolute moniker.
